William Scott Brown, lovingly known as Bill or Pop to his friends and family, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 17, 2024, following a long battle with cancer.

Born June 19, 1951, to William and Geraldine (Scott), Bill lived all of his 73 years at his family’s estate outside Uniopolis. He graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1969 and soon was employed at the Ford Engine Plant, where he later retired after 30 years of service.

He married the love of his life, Cathy Ann Marshall, on December 2, 1972. They inherited his father’s estate and made it their own, remodeling and expanding the house many times. He taught himself carpentry and construction, with his own hands building a separate garage and beach house for the pond on their property in addition to countless personal woodworking projects for his family and friends.

He most cherished good times with his family, hosting many friends at a large annual gathering in his beloved Hocking Hills. He loved hiking, particularly in the Smoky Mountains, and visited nearly every U.S. National Park with Cathy after retirement.

He also loved all kinds of sports and games, particularly cards with his family. After becoming frustrated with golf while in his 30s, he took up Frisbee golf – and proceeded to build an 18-hole regulation course on his property, often hosting family and friends to play and trying, mostly in vain, to win a few bucks in competition.

He is survived by Cathy and their three sons and daughters-in-law – Scott and Darla of Canton; Cory and Jenni of Waynesfield; and Todd and Natalie of Columbus. He also is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Alan Elsea of Maumee; and eight grandchildren – Alex, Zach, Maya, Abbi, Dylan, Magnolia, Carson and Billy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his half-brother, Stanley Brown; and a granddaughter, Brooklynn.

Bill and Cathy, lifelong animal lovers, hosted many cherished dogs and cats through the years. Bill’s all-time favorite canine friend, Bella, was at his side when he passed.

Respecting Bill’s wishes, arrangements will be private.  The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date – with Bill’s beloved Ohio State Buckeyes on the TV.
