William E. “Bill” Sawmiller, 90, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday July 11, 2018 at Otterbein, St. Marys.
He was born in Auglaize County on October 14, 1927 to Alma W. & Nellie M. (Balthaser) Sawmiller who preceded him in death. On April 22, 1950 he married Doris L. Burmeister and she passed away on November 30, 1997.
Survivors include five children; Kenn (Cindy) Sawmiller, Defiance, Gwen (Eric) Imwalle, St. Marys, Penny (Gerald) Gerber, Mt. Vernon, IA, Lynn (Cindy) Sawmiller, St. Marys, Diane Method, Wapakoneta; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister Ruth Loegel and three brothers John “Hank” Sawmiller, Forest “Frog” (June) Sawmiller and Gary (Janice) Sawmiller.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law; William “Bill” Method; a sister Sarah Harsh and a brother Carl “Bud” Sawmiller.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He retired with over 50 years of service to the St. Marys City Schools as a buildings and grounds supervisor. He enjoyed farming and working with cattle. He also enjoyed woodworking with his grandchildren and had made a grandfather clock. He especially loved ballroom dancing with his wife. He was a member of the American Legion, Farm Bureau and St. Paul U.C.C., Wapakoneta where he served as a deacon and was very instrumental in refinishing the wooden doors and the steeple.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday July 16, 2018 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Rev. Becky Sunday officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Moulton with military rites being performed by V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul U.C.C.
