Violet L. Hardin 92, of Wapakoneta died at 4:43 A.M. December 20, 2012 at Otterbein, Cridersville.
She was born October 5, 1920 in Auglaize County to Raymond I. & Violet L. (Kohlhorst) Coates who preceded her in death. On August 2, 1941 she married Paul R. Hardin and he passed away November 4, 1980.
She is survived by a son; Miles W. Hardin of Memphis, TN, a daughter Jamie (John) Kolley of Homosassa, FL, 4 grandchildren; Jennifer (Vijay) Ragavan, Thomas (Kim) Hardin, Alicia Marinich, and Jillena (Randy) Conaway, 3 great-grandchildren; Wesley Hardin, Cassandra & McKenna Marinich; 2 sisters Ruth Lee, Wilma Neal, and a brother Gordon Coates.
She was preceded in death by a brother Glenn Coates and a sister Gatha Ward.
Violet was a 1938 graduate of New Hampshire High School. She then attended Business College in Columbus, OH. While employed at the Heisey Glass Company in Newark, OH she and her husband Paul were married. Paul was a career military officer in which gave her an opportunity to visit and live in many parts of the world. While she was living in other parts of the world and the U.S. she was a very active volunteer. When Violet returned to Auglaize County to live she was very active in many social, civic, service, religious, and community organizations such as; The Auglaize County Visiting Nurses Association, The American Red Cross, American Heart Association, St. Rita's Development Council, YMCA, Wapakoneta Area Community Foundation, God's Store House, The Soroptomist Club, Woman's Club, Helen Hunt Club, numerous organizations within the First United Methodist Church, Auglaize County Historical Society, Republican Woman's Club, Sister Cities Organization, and the Wapakoneta Country Club. In 2006 she was named YMCA Volunteer of the Year, and in 2007 she was named Senior Citizen of the Year.
Private funeral services will be held at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Uniopolis. The Rev. Philip Chilcote will officiate. Friends may call from 9 A.M. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
