Sue Carol Rider, 74 of Wapakoneta, died at 4:55 P.M. on November 27, 2011 in her home surrounded by her loving family with the support of Community Health Professionals Home Hospice following a prolonged fight against heart and kidney disease.
Sue was born July 21, 1937, in Lima, Ohio to Marion and Kathryn (Cox) Sherrick, who preceded her in death. Sue married Kenneth H. Rider of Spencerville, OH on September 7, 1956 who passed away in February 2009 after 52 years of marriage.
Sue attended Lima Central High School in Lima, and in 1954 started her career as a model and sales associate at Madison's Dress shop in downtown Lima. Over the years, Sue also worked as the bakery manager at Gerber's grocery store and as a sales associate at Uhlman's clothing store, both in Wapakoneta. Sue was a member of the Lima area Rainbow for Girls, Wapakoneta Order of the Eastern Star, and the First United Methodist Church of Wapakoneta.
Sue was a devoted mother and wife, enduring multiple family moves between Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Arkansas until settling down in Wapakoneta in 1972. Sue also spent 10 years in retirement in Bradenton, FL, returning to Wapakoneta following Ken's passing in 2009.
Survivors include five children; Lisa (Larry) Fisher of Wapakoneta, Robin (Kevin) Jones of Clyde, Dan (Marie) Rider, of Newtown Square, PA, Brett (Kellie) Rider of Spencerville, and Beth (Howard) Brockman of Cincinnati, 14 grandchildren, Randy (Carrie) Fisher, Katie (Craig) Kohler, Austin (Kelli) Fisher, Rebecca Jones, Candy Jones, Kayla (Josh) Miller, and Kevin Jones, Joesi and Lexie Rider, Jordyn, Joel and Jessie Rider, and Ryan and Lucas Brockman; eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Caroline, and Kathleen Fisher; Berkley and Lauryn Fisher; Ashtyn Kohler; Hannah Peterson, Andrew Miller and two sister-in-laws, Gertrude Sherrick, of Lima, and Alyce Morrison of Spencerville.
Sue was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Randall Rider, a great-granddaughter Kennedy Grace Fisher, and her brothers Edgar Sherrick, Robert Kerr, Ronald Sherrick, and Jack Sherrick.
Memorial services will begin at 7:00 P.M. November 30, 2011 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta. Rev. R.J Davis will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Spencerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
