Sean T. Bailey Profile Photo

Sean Thomas Bailey, 41, of Wapakoneta, passed away September 30, 2024 at his residence.  Sean was born October 5, 1982, in Lima, to Dr. Brent & Cheryl (Smith) Bailey.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Wapakoneta.

As a child, Sean spent time after school watching the Weather Channel on TV.  Having a keen fascination for the weather at an early age, he began his studies at BGSU in meteorology.  He never lost his interest in the weather and you could often find him standing outside in stormy weather, watching for potential tornados and other cloud formations.

Starting at the age of four, he began collecting and learning about rocks, fossils and arrowheads and continued throughout life collecting all kinds of things buried in the earth.  After completing his degree in geology, Sean moved west to Denver, Colorado, finding a dangerous job as a professional engineering geologist.  He was employed by Brierley Associates, a trenchless tunneling company for several years before returning to his hometown of Wapakoneta.  While working for Brierley Associates, he worked on many projects in Ithaca, New York, Kentucky, Wyoming, Las Vegas, Nevada and many Colorado projects.  The two projects of which he was most proud were the widening of the Twin Tunnels (Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel) on I-70 in Colorado, which is the longest tunnel on the Interstate Highway System, and the Lake Mead Intake Project in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was tunnel boring beneath Lake Mead to increase the supply of water for drinking and domestic use in the urban area of Las Vegas.  Sean continued to research his interests in meteorology and geology throughout his life.

Sean enjoyed being in nature, whether it was time spent fishing, hiking, searching for buried “treasure” or simply observing animals.

Survivors also include his brother, Nathan (Terri) Bailey; nephew, Brandon (Gaby Dunbar) Niemeyer; nieces, Makenna, Makayla and Payton Bailey; and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Sean was preceded in death by sister, Nicole; his Aunt Carolyn; and grandparents.  He will be always loved and missed by all.
