Roger D. Metzger, 92, of Wapakoneta died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday November 13, 2014 at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born on December 9, 1921 in Wapakoneta to Harold D. & Alvina (Woehler) Metzger who preceded him in death.
On April 11, 1942 he married Dorothy Sibert and she passed away on January 31, 1990.
He is survived by a daughter; Patricia (Douglas) Slattery of Wapakoneta, 2 grandchildren Craig (Tracey) Slattery of Waynesville, OH and Jennifer (Craig) Birkemeier of Wapakoneta, 4 great-grandchildren Aaron & Austin Birkemeier and Lauren & Emma Slattery. On July 31, 1992 he married Donna M. Butcher and she survives in Kenton. Her children are Pam (Mac) Rightsell of Tarkio, MO, Cindy (Steve) Wikes of Dunkirk, Dan (Valerie) Croy of Rockport, MO, Chuck (Jill) Croy of Ft. Wayne, IN, Jim (Heidi) Croy of Colorado Springs, CO and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Dale Metzger and a sister Carol Arthur.
Roger was a 1939 graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired in 1983 from the Wapakoneta Machine Company as Plant Superintendant after 43 A½ years of service. He was an avid woodworker and fisherman. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and bowling. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 8445, D.A.V. and Brand's Fishing Club all of Wapakoneta. He was a former member of First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta and a current member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Kenton.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 17, 2014 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services 615 N. Dixie Hwy., Wapakoneta. Pastor John Dyer will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
