Rick D. Pummell, 67, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 8:17 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023 at his residence.
He was born on April 18, 1956 in Lima, OH to William and Iris (Wagoner) Pummell who preceded him in death.
Survivors include 2 children; Jason (Justine Baumer) Pummell of Minster, Erin (Jason) Parent of Wapakoneta; 6 grandchildren Riley, Carson, Jaymin, Jaycee, Remi and Cameron; siblings Larry Pummell, Vickie (Joe) Briggs and Kathy (Tim) Weber and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Rick was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Max (Mary Lee) Pummell and best friends Jim Ward and Ron Lowry.
Rick was a 1974 graduate of Wapakoneta High School. After graduation, he immediately started his career as a machinist with Wapak Machine Company and worked there for 36 years until they closed their doors in 2010. He then went on to be a custodian for the Wapakoneta City School system for over 10 years. He had just recently retired at the end of August and was looking forward to football season, particularly football Friday nights with his best friend, Keith Lowther, as they cheered on the Redskins or just kicking back in his chair with Buddy, watching the Buckeyes and Browns.
In his younger years, Rick enjoyed fast cars, Van Halen and spending time with the guys (including but not limited to: Keith, Jim, Ron, Tim, Art and Dorance). As time went on and life shifted focus, he loved spending time with his family and his children, having cookouts, playing cards, daily phone call arguments with his brother Larry, fishing, golfing, bowling, watching the races or making one of his famous massive pots of soup that could feed an army. However, nothing made him more proud than his grandkids. He loved watching them play sports and taking them on golf cart rides to get ice cream. They were his pride and joy and he was their biggest fan. He carried his title as Papa like a badge of honor. He will be greatly missed.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wapakoneta Athletic Boosters.
