Richard S. "Rick" Steinke, 62, of Basin, WY formerly of Botkins passed away at 7:41 a.m. Tuesday August 30, 2016 at his residence in Botkins.
He was born on May 16, 1954 in Lima, OH to Bernard "Shorty" & Audrey M. (Braun) Steinke. His mother preceded him in death on April 22, 2016 and his father survives in Florida.
Survivors include a two daughters and a son; Kari L. (Rick) Gerding of Kalida, Danielle D. Steinke of Botkins, Richard D. Steinke of Maricopa, AZ, three grandchildren Anthony, Chloe and Mason Gerding, two sisters Lavelle A. (Lee) Smith of Botkins and Victoria (Michael) Maisch Rumer of Lima.
Rick was a 1973 graduate of Botkins High School and then attended Tiffin University. He worked at Botkins Electric & Plumbing for 33 years where he was also a co-owner. Prior to his passing Rick worked for The Big Horn Irrigation Canal District in Basin, WY as the Superintendant of canals. He was a member of Botkins Fire Department from 1981 until 1990. Rick was an avid outdoorsman and hunter in Ohio and Wyoming, bagging deer, a trophy wild boar and antelope. He had an extensive toy train collection which included over 2,000 cars and engines. As a hobby, he enjoyed building and painting train cars, going to great lengths to photograph railroad cars and then paint exact duplicates.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 3, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church, Botkins with Rev. Sean Wilson officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Wilson Health Hospice Care.
