Richard C. "Dick" Fahncke, 86, of Wapakoneta died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 25, 1928 in Celina, OH to Otto Martin Fahncke & Eda Christine Kable who preceded him in death.
On September 2, 1950 he married Rosalyn (Rosie) M. Uppenkamp, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors include seven children Keith (Diane) Fahncke and Ronald (Therese) Fahncke both of Wapakoneta, Bob (Jayne) Fahncke of Miamisburg, Larry (Lisa) Fahncke also of Wapakoneta, Lisa (Steve) Merkle of London, Ohio, Kathy Fahncke of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Amy (David) Schlenker of Wapakoneta; 17 grandchildren, Justin (Wendi), Trent (Brandi), and Nathan Fahncke, Adam and Seth Fahncke, Ryan (Jessica), B.J. (Rachael), and Brittany (FiancAC. Reid Bowles) Fahncke, Shannon and Kyle Merkle, Bailey Williams and Kalia, Kurt, Caleb, Zachary, Heidi and Zoey Schlenker; five step-grandchildren Summer Schlosser, Haley (Rodney) Siebeneck, Adam (Jill) Turner, Sarah (FiancAC. Jason Spraley) Stechman and Danielle Meier, six great-grandchildren, a brother Martin Fahncke, and three sisters Anna Brandt, Celesta Howell and Marcella Werner.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Cindy K. Fahncke, a great-grandson, Cooper James Fahncke, two brothers, Kenneth and Luther and two sisters, Lauretta and Wanda.
Dick was a member of the U.S. Army during post WWII stationed in Japan under General MacArthur. He retired from Excello after 25 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed time spent working in the fields driving the combine and or tractor. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking as a master carver. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at gatherings.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta with Father Daniel Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites performed by the V.F.W. Post #8445. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
