Norman J. Gerstner, 84, of Wapakoneta died at 11:23 a.m. Saturday June 7, 2014 at Shawnee Manor.
He was born on January 16, 1930 to Joseph & Marie (Gehrlich) Gerstner who preceded him in death.
In 1952 he married Mary "Kitty" Steinke and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include 4 children; Deb (Neal) Blank, Todd (Linda) Gerstner, Brenda (Doug) Bradford and Nanette (Ron) Klaus all of Wapakoneta, 6 grandchildren Nick (Sara) Gerstner, Dana (Jason Hillard) Gerstner, Jacob (Devon) Blank, Samuel Blank, Heather Bradford and Gabe Klaus, 3 great-grandchildren Maxwell, Lauren and Ryan Gerstner, 2 sisters Dorothy Pfenning and Joan Hansard, 2 sister-in-laws Helen and Mary Gerstner and a brother-in-law Jack Driscoll.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers John, Roland "Bud" and Robert Gerstner, 2 sisters Alice Driscoll and Jane Titus and 3 brother-in-laws Cliff Titus, Paul Pfenning and Ray Hansard.
Norman enlisted with the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old serving during the Korean Conflict. He was an electrician at Excello for 17 years and retired from Dana Corp. He enjoyed all sports and was a basketball player in his younger years. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post #330 and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday June 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Patrick Sloneker will be officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post #8445. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
