Nelson L. Schaub, 87, of Wapakoneta formerly of Rhine, passed away at 4:09 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
He was born on September 14, 1930 in Botkins, OH to Edwin & Amanda T. (Greve) Schaub who preceded him death. On August 21, 1954, he married Phyllis J. Oakley who survives in Wapakoneta. He was a faithful and loving husband for 64 years.
He is survived by 6 children; Jerome (Eliane) Schaub of Dayton, Terresa Oakes of Wapakoneta, Marsha (Steve) Fogt of Wapakoneta, John Schaub of Botkins, Melissa (John) Nowlin of Anna, Tammera (John) Cervi of Lewis Center; 14 grandchildren, Belinda Fonner, Michelle Argo, Brandy Luckey, Amanda Chin, Lesley Oakes, Stacy Oakes, Tiffiney Elguera, Gabriel Castro, Jaimee Coffey, Justin Schaub, Nicholas Nowlin, Abigail Nowlin, Jonathan Cervi, Maria Cervi; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Ruth (Ralph) Prenger of Botkins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law; Rickey and Julie Schaub and a brother, Norman Schaub.
Nelson was a lifelong farmer and a bus driver for Botkins Local Schools from 1954-1961. He also worked at Airstream in Jackson Center where he was known as “King Louie.” He was a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine. Nelson was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Cavaliers fan. He loved polka music and going to Octoberfest. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of The Buckeye Farm Antiques Association. He won many trophies and awards for his tractor pulling skills. Above all, Nelson was present and involved in the lives of his children.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine with Rev. Jarred Kohn officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
