Marlene J. Goudy, 87, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 4:09 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on July 8, 1936 in Minster, OH to Norbert and Freda (Moorman) Gudorf who preceded her in death.  On October 11, 1958 she married John K. “Jack” Goudy and he passed away on July 7, 2013.

Survivors include 4 children Kurt, Bruce, Tony, Laura (Wade) Tuttle; 9 grandchildren Susan and Anastasia Goudy, Cara (Jordan) Rodeheffer, Christopher (Diana) Goudy, Jacob, Sara and Alex Goudy, and Luke (Alyssa) and Joshua (Addison) Kelley; 9 great-grandchildren; 8 siblings Kenny (Evie) Gudorf, Denny (Susan) Gudorf, Kathy (Louis) Grilliot, Bob (Karen) Gudorf, Ruthie (Rick) Gabel, Mike Gudorf, Carol Longo, Ted (Sandy) Gudorf and a sister-in-law Marion Gudorf.  Also surviving is her faithful cat “Kitty.”

Marlene was preceded in death by an infant brother Phillip Gudorf and another brother David Gudorf.

Marlene was a 1954 graduate of Minster High School.  She served 1 term as Wapakoneta City Treasurer, 7 years with Auglaize County Auditor, and retired as Deputy Registrar with the Wapakoneta License Bureau after 22 years.  Marlene was a founding a member of the Ohio Deputy Registrar Association where she served as the first president.  She was also a lifelong Democrat and served many years as a Democrat committee woman.  Marlene was also member of St. Joseph Catholic Church which led her to earn a degree from the Athenaeum of Cincinnati in the Lay Pastoral Program.

Besides her family, Marlene’s lifelong passions were reading, music, and cooking.  Marlene loved opera and classical music.  She and her daughter Laura attended live theatre and opera in Dayton for 15 years.  She loved to go fishing with her grandchildren and taught them how to cast.  Some of those experiences were hilarious and she loved to tell the stories over and over.  Her grand and great grandchildren were her greatest joy in life.  Her outlook on life was “Be happy, laugh a lot, and do good things.”

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Willig officiating.  Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Family and friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
