Lois E. Yinger

Lois E. Yinger, 91, of Wapakoneta, passed away the evening of February 6, 2018 at Auglaize Acres.  She was born on November 5, 1926 near New Knoxville in Shinbone, Ohio to Homer & Grace Engle Kruse, who have preceded her in death.  She met her soulmate, Roland C. Yinger, on a blind date.  They wed on March 5, 1949 and were married for 57 years before he passed on May 11, 2006.  We take great comfort in knowing they are together once again.

She is survived by her two children, Rita (Mike) Borges and John (Jan) Yinger, both of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren, Melinda (Paul) Wagner, of Rock Hill, SC, Amy (Tony) Bobruk, of Woodhaven, MI, Jeff (Allison) Keiber, of Cleveland, Jenny (Jason) Brown, of Bellefontaine, Brian (Katey) Yinger, of Kent, Katie Yinger, of Wapakoneta, Michelle (Blain) Gearing, of Lima, and Michael Borges, of Lima; eight great-grandchildren, Dillen King, Zenna Bobruk, Cameron Keiber, Lexey Brown, Brix Brown, Daxby Brown, Eleanor Yinger, and Kirkland Borges; a sister-in-law, Twila (Al) Eubanks, of Urbana; five step-siblings, Robert (Peggy) Settlage, Lester (Helen) Settlage, Merilee (Roger) Eversman, Grace Roediger, and Joyce (Allan) Smith; a niece, Patty (Dave) Mann; and a nephew, Alan (Carol) Kruse.

Lois was preceded in death by her brother, Lester (Leah) Kruse; a step-brother-in-law, Gene Roediger; and a niece, Jeanne Campbell.

Born a farmer's daughter, Lois was raised to live off the land, able to take a chicken from barnyard to dinner table.  She continued to grow tomatoes, pick strawberries, and can peaches for most of her life.  Living through the Great Depression instilled in her a strong belief of wasting nothing.

Once her children were settled in school, Lois started working in the cafeteria for Wapakoneta City Schools.  Then for twenty years, she worked in admission and souvenirs at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum.  Lois enjoyed all aspects of her time there, especially meeting Neil himself.

A true Christian lady, Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church.  She loved the old traditional hymns and was honored to travel to the Holy Land.  Lois provided numerous pans of scalloped potatoes for funeral luncheons, her way of sharing her love of feeding people.  Even through working for the Board of Elections, she manned the polls and served election dinners.

Throughout her life, family was Lois's pride and joy.  She was happiest when company was coming over, ready to pull cookies out of the freezer at a moments notice.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, February 12, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta.  Josh Tissot will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Auglaize Acres Activities Fund or First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta.
