Leona M. Steinke, 96, of Wapakoneta, went peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 5:45 p.m. at the Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was born on September 15, 1914, in Wapakoneta, to Matthew & Margaret (Brun) Eisert, who both have preceded her in death. On June 18, 1935, she married Gilbert Steinke, who passed away August 19, 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Carvel R. (Virginia) Steinke, of Maineville, OH, and Alan Steinke, of Wapakoneta; five grandchildren, Dennis (Judy) Steinke, of Maineville, Diane Volk, of Cincinnati, Debra (Fred) Kinkel, of Cincinnati, Karen (Denny) Behr, of Troy, and Kevin Byrne, of St. Marys; and four great-grandchildren, Phillip Volk, Annette Volk, Kelly Rhodes, and Jonathan Rhodes. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Byrne-Haas; two daughter-in-laws, Margaret Steinke and Marlene Steinke; five brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Steinke was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and cooking.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Sloneker will be officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Schlosser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, where a rosary service will be held at 5 p.m.
