John U. Martin Jr.

John U. Martin Jr., 70, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 5:28 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2022 at Lima Memorial Health System.  He was born on August 13, 1952 in Lima, to John U. and Betty J. Kimmel Martin Sr., who have preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death his step-father, George Gerstner.   On January 21, 1971, he married Rebecca J. "Becky" Braun, who passed away on April 13, 2020.

Survivors include two children, Tim (Jill) Martin, of Buckland and Rich (Judith) Martin, of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Cody (Sarah) Martin, of St. Marys, Brooke (Brent) Bohman, of St. Marys, Elizabeth (Dustin) Lumadue, of Bellefontaine, and John Martin, of Northfield; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Martin and Chase Martin; one sister, Joyce (Donny) Sheipline, of Wapakoneta; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his son, Chris Martin; and four siblings, Karen Pack, Bob Martin, Jean Schneider, and Vic Martin.

John worked at Koneta Rubber for over thirty years.  He was a member of the Wapakoneta Eagles, Aerie 691 and the Wapakoneta American Legion, where he and his family proudly dedicated their time to placing flags at Veteran's graves in local cemeteries on Memorial Day for the past twenty years.  In his free time, John enjoyed fishing and taking his dog on long car rides.  A supporter of any sport his grandchildren were active in, he was always their biggest fan.  John was most content being with family and they will cherish the memories made during their travels together.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.  Father Sean Wilson will officiate and interment will follow in Buckland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
