James W. "Jim" Wills, 85, of Wapakoneta died at 3:16 p.m. Saturday January 4, 2014 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born on March 27, 1928 in Lima, OH to James "Pete" & Bessie (Darst) Wills who preceded him in death. On August 26, 1965 he married Marlene J. Cox who survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include four daughters; Colleen (Harley) Thompson of Wapakoneta, Kaleen Sawmiller of Bowling Green, Kim Koenig and Wendy (Lowell) Hughes both of Wapakoneta; 12 grandchildren Don & Dan Storer, Jordan (Kara Goudy) Rodeheffer, Cindy Jurosic, Jessica & Sarah Sawmiller, Jena & Tara Koenig, Tiffany (Joe) Pitter, Kaitlyn, Cassidy & Curtis Hughes, and 3 great-grandchildren Samara Rodeheffer, Ian Goudy and Isabelle Storer; three sisters Betty Hemmert of Wapakoneta, Dorothy "Dot" (Ned) Hobler of Moulton and Catherine "Nan" Harris of S.C. and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, honorary family and friends.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Phyllis Walker, Mary "Toots" Wolfe, Janet Clayton and 3 brothers; Paul, Dick and Bill Wills.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army National Guard from June 1948 until June 1957 and then with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from January 1952 until December1953. He retired from Wapakoneta Machine Company in 1989. He was life member of the V.F.W. Post 8445 where he served as Quartermaster for 25 years among other positions such as Commander and Adjutant. He also organized and served on the Honor Guard for many years. He bowled on the V.F.W. bowling team for many years and enjoyed playing golf occasionally. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 9, 2014 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Father Daniel Hunt officiating. Military rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445 following the service. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the V.F.W. 8445.
