Jack Eldon Smith, 89, of Wapakoneta died at 2:11 p.m. Sunday September 20, 2015 at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born on August 18, 1926 in Wapakoneta the second of four children to Harry & Leona (Headapohl) Smith who preceded him in death. On December 24, 1946 he married JoAnn Katherine Woolf and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include two children; Jennifer Smith of NJ and Jack (Ruth) Smith of Wapakoneta, three grandchildren Mollie Amanda Smith (Josh) Goldman of Bloomfield, NJ, Jacob Smith of Wapakoneta, Marcie Smith of Grove City, three great-grandchildren Calliope, Emmylou and Miller Smith-Goldman, and a brother Tom (Jane) Smith of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a brother Dr. Ned Smith and a sister Jane Smith Parsons.
While in high school, Jack worked as a lifeguard at the Wapakoneta pool. He graduated from Blume High School, class of 1944 and enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went to work at Smith Brothers Electric the family business. On April 1, 1946 he purchased the family business with his younger brother Tom and together they ran it successfully until Jack's retirement on January 1, 1992.
Jack was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Eagles 691, American Legion 330, and a life member of the Wapakoneta Men's Bowling Association. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and woodworking.
In accordance with his wishes the will be no public visitation or services. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
