George E. Rinehart, 88, of Wapakoneta died at 1:54 a.m. Sunday May 1, 2016 at Heartland of Indian Lake.
He was born on November 22, 1927 in Auglaize County to Thomas F. & Bertha (Ritchie) Rinehart who preceded him in death. On April 5, 1952 he married Demetra E. Schuler who survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include 5 children; Pamela (Eugene) Brown, Sandra (Lou) Klopfenstein, Bruce (Susan) Rinehart, Alan (Randi) Rinehart, Kim (Phil) Metz all of Wapakoneta, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 5 siblings; Frieda Young, Mary Ellen Loegel, Anna Marie Hershberger, August Rinehart and Joseph Rinehart.
George was a 1945 graduate of Jackson Center High School. He then enlisted with the United States Navy during WWII. After being honorably discharged he came back home to take over the family grain and dairy farm that he operated before retiring after 37 years. He was a member of the Ohio Brown Swiss Association and was a 4-H advisor for the Happy Herdsman for 20 years. He was also employed by Milk Marketing Inc. as a field representative and Plastipak Packaging where he was a parts specialist. He was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Clay Township where he had served at council president. He was an avid reader, particularly Westerns. He dearly loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 5, 2016 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Clay Township. Rev. Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Clay Township or to St. Johns Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
