Fred C. Kohler, 90, of Botkins, passed away at 9:26 p.m. Wednesday April 19, 2017 at St. Rita’s Inpatient Hospice, Lima.
He was born in Auglaize County to Anthony & Catherine (Gerstner) Kohler who preceded him in death. On November 23, 1949 he married Luanna A. Schaub and she survives in Botkins.
Survivors also include their 8 children; Patricia (Dave) Dahlinghaus of Minster, William (Sharon) Kohler of Botkins, Peg (Ken) Fisher of Wapakoneta, John (Gail) Kohler of Anna, Robert (Marcy) Kohler of Botkins, Mark Kohler of Key West, FL, Roger Kohler of Wapakoneta, Martha (Mike) Munch of Ada, MI, 15 grandchildren; Deb Bubeck, Joan Dahlinghaus, Chad (Diane) Kohler, Craig (Katie) Kohler, Brent (Andrea) Kohler, Lindsey (Phil) Muhlenkamp, Andrea (Jason) Greve, Mitchell (Emily) Kohler, Brian Kohler, Emily Kohler, Ross Kohler, Stephanie Fisher, Kyla (Aaron) Maurer, Hanna Oakley, Paige Oakley; 16 great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Becky Kohler and Pauline Kohler.
He was preceded in death by a son; James Kohler, two brothers Edward and Leon Kohler, two sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor (Don) Kennedy and Mary (Cletus) Frankenburg.
Fred was a 1944 graduate of Botkins High School and then served with the U.S. Navy. After returning, he along with his brothers operated Kohler Milk Transportation for 28 years and he was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine and the American Legion Post 446, Anna. He also enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Newport Sportsman Club.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine with Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta where military rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Rita’s Hospice or St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Improvement Fund.
