Forest A. “Frog” Sawmiller, 92, of Wapakoneta passed away at 9:20 a.m., April 19, 2023 surrounded by family at Vancrest of St. Marys.

He was born March 7, 1931 to Alma and Nellie (Balthaser) Sawmiller who preceded him in death. On August 21, 1954 he married June Carol Rostorfer at St. Johns Methodist Church by Rev. A.E. Oliver, they were married for 68 years.

Forest graduated from New Knoxville High School in 1950 and then proudly served in the U.S Army during the Korean War between October of 1951 and was honorable discharged September of 1953. Forest farmed most of his life and operated the Neuhauser Hatchery downtown Wapakoneta in the 1950’s.  He also worked at the Wapakoneta Machine Company for 25 years and retired in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Forest is survived by his wife June and 7 children; Joe (Jacki) Sawmiller, Bob Sawmiller, Kathy (Randy) Wallace, Deb (Rick) Regula, Sharon (Bitler) Hower, Jim (Paula) Sawmiller, Tom (Shawn) Sawmiller; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Lucas Regula; 2 sisters Ruth Loegel, Sarah Harsh and 4 brothers Carl, Bill, John and Gary Sawmiller.

Memorial services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services with his nephew Rev. Steve Harsh officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445 following the service.  Family and friends may visit from noon until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions can be made to Grand Lake Hospice or Hunting for Heroes.
