Elton Jay Slonecker, 86, of Sidney passed away at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday June 28, 2016 at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born on May 1, 1930 in Bellefontaine, OH to Lester F. & Naomi (King) Slonecker who preceded him in death.
He was married to Donna June Carnes of Bellefontaine from November 24, 1948 until her death on January 31, 2009.
Elton is survived by 3 sons; Michael (Vande) Slonecker of Bronston, KY, Patrick (Zhenping Ruan) Slonecker of Harrison, OH, Russell (Lisa) Slonecker of Wapakoneta, 7 grandchildren: Travis Slonecker, Timothy Slonecker, Holly Slonecker, Emily Slonecker, Jana Slonecker, Xiangjun (Jun) Li and Xiangkang (Kenny) Li and 5 great-grandchildren: Michael Slonecker, Katelyn Slonecker, Ananias Slonecker, Silas Slonecker and Alena Slonecker.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, June McBrayer on December 9, 2002.
Elton was a 1948 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. After graduation Elton worked as a mechanic with his father at Slonecker's Garage in Bellefontaine. He also farmed part-time and worked at Detroit Aluminum & Brass and Sidney Tool and Die as a machinist and programmer. He enjoyed traveling, cars, camping, puzzles and especially woodworking. He was a member of the Elks and the Eagles #2166, both of Bellefontaine. He will always be remembered as "Papa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday July 5, 2016 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta. Private graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery near Belle Center, OH.
