Edwin Eugene Springer, 65, of Wapakoneta entered eternal life at 2:44 P.M. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at this residence. The Lord surely said, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Eddie was born in Celina, Ohio on January 10, 1947 to Charles and Martha (Dennings) Springer who preceded him in death. On February 4, 1967 he married Shirley (Cook) Springer who survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons; Edwin Eugene Springer II (Chip) and his wife Laura of New Bremen, Ohio, Michael Joseph Springer and his wife Kara of Wapakoneta, four grandchildren, Cody, Tara, Maddison, and Cohl Springer, a brother Terry (Linda) Springer of Lima, two half brothers Don (Dorothy) Springer of Celina and Charles (Wanda) Springer of Temperance, Michigan.
Eddie worked at Ford Motor Company in Lima for 37 years until his retirement in 2006 as a machine repairman. While at Ford he apprenticed other employees in the trade and was a Veteran Representative of the United Auto Workers. Following his retirement he found great satisfaction in teaching and helping others succeed through Apollo Career Center's Adult Education.
Eddie graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1965 and completed studies at the Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1966. On August 14, 1966 he entered the U.S. Army serving for three years. He was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland as an instructor and Giessen, Germany as a wheel and track mechanic.
He faithfully attended St. Joseph Catholic Church with his family for over 45 years, was a proud member of the American Legion Post 330, U.A.W. Local 1219, and The National Rifle Association. Along with many other outdoor sporting activities his favorite pastime was participating in competitive trap and sporting clays events.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday October 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at Schlosser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
