George Dudley Schuler, 92, of Wapakoneta passed away at 8:05 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022 at Otterbein, St. Marys.
He was born in Ashland, Ohio on September 27, 1930 to George Sebastian and Treva Mae (Robinson) Schuler who preceded him in death.
On June 20, 1954 he married Joyce Ann Katterhenry and she passed away in January 3, 2019.
Survivors include a son; Steven D. (Janet) Schuler of Wapakoneta and daughter Gail E. (Stephen) Walter, of Crossville, Tennessee; two grandsons Andrew H. (Rachel) Schuler of Santa Cruz, California and Elliot M. Schuler of Aurora, Colorado; as well as two great-grandchildren, Ava Rae and Jack Andrew Schuler. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Packer and 2 brothers, Timothy and Jud.
Dudley's family moved to Cincinnati in 1931 where his father was with the City Loan Co. He was transferred to Wapakoneta in 1943, where Dudley attended Blume High School from the 7th grade. During High School he worked at Zofkie Clothing. After graduation he spent a year and half at Phillips Flowers. He attended floral design school in Chicago and later worked in a flower and gift business in Dixson, Illinois, where he was recognized for his outstanding design. He also served in Germany for the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
When he returned from the service, he and Joyce opened Flowers by Dudley in the Koneta Hotel and later moved to the Patterson Koch Building where they expanded the business to include gifts, china, flatware and bridal gowns.
Active in the community, he was president of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, County Visiting Nurses, Downtown Improvement Organization and St. Paul United Church of Christ. Dudley was the chairman of the sanctuary redecoration committee and sang in the church choir for 60 years.
Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022 at St. Paul U.C.C., Wapakoneta with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating and military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Burial will be at a later date at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul U.C.C., Living Endowment Fund or to the Schuler-Walter Foundation.
