Doug was a 1966 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy (RVAH-13) and served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War, where he was an aviation structural mechanic. He was employed for 30 years at Yellow Freight as a union steward and a truck driver. He also worked for the Auglaize County Veterans Service Commission and served as a highly respected Director and Veterans Service Officer until his retirement in 2011. He went well above the call of duty to help his fellow Veterans. He was awarded the Dayton VA Medical Center Leadership Award in 2003. He was past commander of American Legion Post 330, Wapakoneta, a life member of V.F.W. Doug was the kind of friend that most people dream of having. He was Sam Elliot and James Dean all rolled into one. He was a very generous soul who gave so much to all who were in need of a friend, in need of someone to talk to and in need of someone to listen. "Love ya more"
A special thanks to Pastor Roy and congregation from the little country church in Venus, FL for prayers and fellowship throughout the past year.
