Dennis L. "Red" Gaier, 89, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2021 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's. He was born July 19, 1932 in Fort Loramie to Lawrence & Elizabeth (Miller) Gaier, who have preceded him in death. On October 8, 1960, he married Esther I. Gross, who survives.
He is also survived by two brothers, Damen (Rosalie) Gaier of Anna and John (Eileen) Gaier, of Wapakoneta; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Gaier, Fritz (Ruth) Gaier and Norman Gaier.
At 19, Red was drafted into the Army, serving in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Upon coming home from the war, he met Esther and they were married at St. John's Catholic Church, Fryburg by Father Tebbe, and together they built a home and a life they loved. He was a longtime member of the church, at the Wapak Eagles, and a life member of the Wapak VFW. For 41 years, Red worked as a welder for Henschen Industries of Jackson Center. During that time he also farmed. Red was also very active in tractor shows, especially the Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association and the Buckeye Farm Antique, of which he was a member from the beginning. In his free time, Red enjoyed being with friends, camping, and dancing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fryburg. Father Sean Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military rites by the Wapakoneta VFW. Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Johns Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department or the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Fryburg.
