David L. Smith, 88, of Wapakoneta died at 9:30 a.m. Monday February 22, 2016 at Otterbein Cridersville.
He was born on December 26, 1927 in Cleveland, OH to Imo & Louise (Hetzler) Smith who preceded him in death. On February 14, 1953 he married
Janice H. "Jan" Hemphill and she passed away on July 20, 1999.
Survivors include two children; David "Bart" (Elisha) Smith, Victoria L. Smith both of Wapakoneta and two granddaughters Dr. Andrea (Martin) Brookhart and Emily Smith.
David was a 1946 graduate of Angola High School in Indiana where he also attended Indiana University. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed at G.A. Wintzer & Son Co. for 27 years. He was a member of St. Paul U.C.C. where he also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Wapakoneta Country Club, Elks #1170, Eagles #691 and the Auglaize County Alumni Band where he played the tuba.
Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 25, 2016 at St. Paul U.C.C., Wapakoneta. Pastor Becky Sunday will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul U.C.C.
