David L. "Dave" Klopfenstein, 69 of Botkins died at 5:30 A.M. February 23, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born April 10, 1940 in Lima to Roy C. & Lucille M. (Baughman) Klopfenstein. His father preceded him in death while his mother survives in Wapakoneta. On November 11, 1961 he married Carol A. Metz who survives in Botkins.
Survivors also include three daughters; Lynda (Greg) Keith of Maplewood, Dawn (Mitch) Bailey of Jackson Center, & Cheri (Tom) Geis of Wapakoneta; one son Ron (Beth) Klopfenstein of Botkins; 11 grandchildren, Kaylee Jones, Josh & Spencer Keith, Derek & Shelbie Bailey, Parker & Kaitlyn Geis, Jason, Anne, Jill, & Matthew Klopfenstein; one brother George (Jane) Klopfenstein of Sidney, and several nieces and nephews.
Dave graduated in 1958 from Jackson Center High School. He was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. He retired in June of 2009 after 24 years of service with Advanced Agri-Solutions in Buckland. He was also an auxiliary deputy with the Shelby County Sheriff's Reserves for 5 years and had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He loved to make cookies for his grandchildren especially molasses. He also enjoyed going to his grandchildren's activities, taking walks, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Botkins with the Rev. Richard Faust officiating. Burial will follow at St. Jacobs Cemetery in Jackson Center. Friends may call from 2-8 Thursday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 615 N. Dixie Hwy., Wapakoneta and one hour prior to the service.
