Daniel H. "Whitey" Schaub, 74, of Botkins died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday January 26, 2016 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born on May 30, 1941 in Shelby County to Franklin & Alvina (Greve) Schaub who preceded him in death. On February 23, 1963 he married Connie Oakley and she survives in Botkins.
Survivors also include 5 daughters; Keyna Maynard of Jackson Center, Kecia (Leonard) Schmerge, Kim (Gordon) Lawrence, Trisha Schaub, Jessica (Josh) Meyer all of Botkins, 13 grandchildren Lesley Oakes, Brandon (Alison) Haas, Nathan (Morgan) Haas, Cameron Haas, Ryan (Marie) Schmerge, Brad Schmerge, Doug Schmerge, Breezy (Jake) Yinger, Brittany (Joel) Billings, Gabe Lawrence, Mikaila Lawrence, Jace and Cale Meyer, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers James (Beatrice) Schaub, Paul (Sue) Schaub both of Wapakoneta, a half-brother Bernard (Audrey) Steinke of FL, 3 half sisters Ursula Wachauf of St. Marys, Sylvia (Urban) Schneider of Wapakoneta, Sally Naseman of Botkins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son; Bryan Schaub, a granddaughter Carolina Meyer, his twin brother Dave Schaub, a brother Franklin Schaub Jr., a half-brother Sylvester Steinke and a half-sister Roberta Hemmert.
Dan worked for COBA Select Sires for 37 years. He enjoyed farming and loved watching basketball, especially the Botkins Trojans. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In honor of Dan's support for the Botkins Trojans the family has asked that everyone wear black, white and gold.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday February 1, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine. Rev. Patrick Sloneker will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family where they will direct it toward the Botkins Trojan Sports Program.
