Charles J. "Joe" Walter Jr., 72, of Wapakoneta passed away at 12:18 p.m. Sunday February 8, 2015 at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born on July 7, 1942 in Lima, OH to Charles J. Walter Sr. and Sally Ann Wheeler who preceded him in death.
On September 6, 1969 he married Linda M. Kohlrieser and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors also include a daughter; Christina "Tina" (Chris) Buchanan, 2 sons Charles "Chuck" (Tammy Dobie) Walter III and Nicholas "Nick" (Amber) Walter, 7 grandchildren Zachary and Courtney Buchanan, Kaleb, Gabrielle, Ryan and Braylon Walter, Charles "C.J." Walter IV, 4 sisters Nancy (Everett) Merrill, Kay Manger, Beth (Reuben) Maki, Sandy Wagner and a brother Dave (June) Walter.
He was preceded in death by a 2 brothers-in-law Dick Manger and Dick Wagner.
Joe was a 1961 graduate of Lima Central Catholic. He served with the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1966 during the Vietnam Conflict. He owned and operated Walter and Sons Meats in Wapakoneta where he was a third generation butcher and meat processor offering wholesale and retail meat sales. He served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Ohio Association of Meat Processors. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, K of C, Amvets and Eagles all of Wapakoneta. He was also a member of St. John Catholic Church, Freyburg. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday February 11, 2015 at St. John Catholic Church, Freyburg. Rev. Patrick Sloneker will be officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery in Freyburg. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta where a rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
