Bonnie C. Wurst

Bonnie C. Wurst, 75, of Columbus, formerly of Wapakoneta, passed away at 10:07 a.m. June 18, 2024 at her home.

She was born on January 8, 1949 in Sidney, OH to Nevin & Rowena (Tyson) Howell who preceded her in death.  On June 12, 1971 she married Michael H. Wurst, who passed away on January 2, 2022.

She is survived by her three children Benjamin (Amy) Wurst, Jennifer (Dennis) Rounds, Elizabeth Wurst and four grandchildren Miles, Marin, Samuel, and Edward.

Bonnie was a 1967 graduate of Indian Lake High School, and then attended The Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor’s in Science Education.   Bonnie’s career in education spanned from being a High School science and math teacher in Fort Recovery to Education Specialist at the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum, to Recycling Education for Auglaize and Mercer Counties.  Bonnie served her community for many years on the Wapakoneta City School Board, where she served as president, on the Wapakoneta City Council and as a member of the Noon Optimist.  She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta where she served on the Parish Council, taught CCD/PSR and volunteered for the St. Joe Festival.  She was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Columbus, volunteering at Fish Frys, Rummage Sales and the St. Vincent de Paul Center.  She also joined the Gillie Senior Center in Columbus where she did ceramics and other classes, took a trip and was part of a Service Sewing group.

In her free time, she enjoyed her cats, sewing, quilting and crafting Christmas ornaments for friends and family.  Most of all, she enjoyed time with her grandchildren and several others who called her honorary Grandma.

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Deacon Rick Westbay officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Columbus on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd, Columbus OH 43229, from 6:00-8:00pm.
