Billy R. Townsend

Billy R. Townsend, 86, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 12:05 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on May 30, 1936 in Lima, OH to Merle and Theo (Briggs) Townsend who preceded him in death.  On November 4, 1989 he married Juanita Luebrecht and she survives in Wapakoneta.

Survivors include 3 children Joy (John) Meyer, Keith (Robin) Townsend, Amy (Douglas) Schwartz, 2 step-daughters Debra Ann (Jerry) Lear, Christina Zavarelli; 11 Grandchildren; 18 Great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter.

Billy was preceded in death by step-son Thomas W. Scott; a brother Larry Townsend and a step-son-in-law Anthony Zavarelli.

Billy was a 1954 graduate of Mendon High School.  After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1996.  He retired from General Dynamics, Lima Army Tank Plant in 1989.  Billy had a very strong Christian faith and was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.  He loved dancing and enjoyed traveling to historical locations.  He dearly loved his family and he will be remembered for being a jokester.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 23, 2022 at Harvest Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Bragg officiating.  Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445.  Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
