Bettie June Wellington, 85, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 1:15 P.M. at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born June 13, 1923 in Wapakoneta to Anne L. and L. DeWitt Fisher who preceded her in death. On February 26, 1943 she married Rollin L. Wellington Sr. who also preceded her in death on September 26, 1988.
Survivors include a son Rollin L. (Katharine) Wellington Jr. of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren, Joshua R. (Katherine) Wellington of Fishers, IN, Katharine L. (Richard) Madding of Centerville, OH and Lucas D. (Karen) Wellington of Fishers, IN; nine great-grandchildren, Ezra, Sadie, and Oscar Wellington; Anna, Samuel, and Nathaniel Madding; and Emma, Madeline, and Colin Wellington; 3 brothers-in-law, Milo (Brenda) Wellington, Grant Walbolt, and Wayne Jones; and a sister-in-law, Betty Ann (Robert) Shappell. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Casandra Anne; and two sisters, Mary Anne Walbolt and Nancy Lou Jones.
She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church where she participated in the Chancel Choirs of the many communities in which she lived.
Bettie was a member of the Blume High School class of 1941. She served as a nurse at Mare Island Naval Hospital in Vallejo, California during World War II. She lived in Virginia, California, Michigan, and Florida before returning to Wapakoneta in 1992. Most recently, Bettie served as President of the Residents Council at Auglaize Acres. She enjoyed playing word and card games with her many friends. Her optimistic and positive spirit was a hallmark of her relationships with family and friends. Her engaging smile, quick wit, and unique personality will be genuinely missed.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 615 N. Dixie Hwy. Wapakoneta. Rev. Michael V. Westbay will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 12 noon until the time of the service.
