Audrey M. Steinke, 85, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Ft. Myers, Florida.
She was born in St. Marys, Ohio on November 13, 1930 to Frank and Loula (Laux) Braun, who preceded her in death. On June 1, 1949, she married Bernard "Shorty" Steinke, who survives. They have been married for 66 years.
Audrey has three children: Lavelle A. Smith (Lee) of Botkins, Richard S. Steinke, of Basin, WY, and Victoria Maisch Rumer (Michael) of Lima. Audrey also has seven grandchildren: Ginger L. Heuker (Steve) of Botkins, Max Smith (Kara) of Botkins, Kari L. Gerding (Rick) of Kalida, Danielle Steinke, Richard D. Steinke, Zachary D. Maisch (Brittan) all of Lima, and Jessica B. Maisch (Gary Hayes) of Sarasota, Florida. Surviving her are ten great-grandchildren: Kayla, Spencer, and Carmen Heuker, Bree Charles, Anthony, Chloe, and Mason Gerding, Rowan and Harrison Maisch, and Shelby Hayes. In addition, Audrey is survives by seven siblings: Maxine Baumer of Ft. Loramie, Beulah Hibner, of Wapakoneta, Mary Alice Sanders, of Ft. Loramie, Mary Ann Jarrell, of Columbus, Ardeen Braun, of Botkins, Albert Braun, of Houston, and Arnold Braun, of Anna.
She was preceded in death by five siblings: Arlene Kenzik, Roger Braun, Harry Braun, Adrian Braun, and Irvin Braun.
Audrey was a homemaker and business woman before retiring. She and her husband, Shorty founded Botkins Electric & Plumbing, managing this business for over 54 years before retiring. Audrey filled her life with numerous activities such as organizing and coaching summer girls softball. She loved sports and especially enjoyed women's college softball, entertaining the Ohio Northern University team at her Florida home during their spring warm-ups. She loved bowling, participating in at least four leagues and a traveling team, which took her to competitions in Baltimore, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Seattle, Toledo, and Tuscan. Audrey also loved to travel with friends, enjoying such trips as rapid water rafting, hot air balloon rides, and a mule trip up the Grand Canyon. She accomplished her goal of visiting all 50 states in the United States of America. In her later years, Audrey enjoyed gardening with her green thumb, resulting in beautiful, colorful flowers, and exotic plants. She also enjoyed quilting, making wine, canning, making jellies, and baking, which earned her the title of "pie lady" from her family and friends surrounding her at her home in Florida.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins. Father Patrick Sloneker will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be made in Audrey's memory to the Botkins High School Athletic Department.
